What Is a Sugar Wax:

Sugaring is rooted with ancients. It is considered a natural method to remove unwanted hairs from just three ingredients that are available in every kitchen: lemon, sugar and water.

In this method, on a low flame, all ingredients are heated together and attain a thick syrup-like consistency. When it comes to a comfortable temperature, then this mixture is applied to the area in opposite directions. Due to the presence of sugar, it adheres to hair and pulls off in the same direction as hair with the help of fingers.

What Is Waxing:

Waxing is different from Sugaring; it is generally hard. Apply in the same direction of hairs and remove in the opposite direction with the help of cloth or strip. Usually, it contains additives and oil (sometimes essential oil) that can irritate your skin.

Sugaring vs. Waxing pros and cons:

Pros of Sugaring:

As Sugaring is based on natural ingredients so it is considered safe for even sensitive skin, it causes less irritation and inflammation. So the results are pretty good.

Cons:  if you have thick, coarse hair, it might not be effective and sometimes causes ingrown hair because hair pulls in the same direction as hairs, so the hairs may not come out from the root.

Pros and cons of Waxing:

Waxing is equally beneficial as sugar, but it is effective even on the thinnest hair. The only con that I have felt is that it might cause irritation on sensitive skin, and the chances of ingrown hair are more than the sugar because when the strip pulls in the opposite direction of hairs, it is more painful.

What Hurts Less Waxing Or Sugaring?

People claim that Sugaring is painless. As far as I have experienced both of the removal methods, I must say, when you pull your hair from its root, it will definitely cause pain. There was a slight difference because wax spreads over a large area, so you will feel more pain waxing than sugaring.

Sugaring vs Waxing Which Lasts Longer:

Both methods provide the same duration of results between 2-4 weeks. However the result may vary because it depends on some other factors like the hair growth cycle and how dark your hair is. However it is advisable to strictly follow your hair removal schedule because it will reduce the growth of your hair and you will feel less pain.

How Long Should Hair Be For Sugar Waxing:

For waxing or sugaring, your hair must be at least ¼ of the length. If your hair length is less than that, then you can not do waxing as the wax will not adhere to your hair, and you will not get the desired results. If your hair is more than a rice grain, you should trim your hair before waxing or sugaring.

Who should not have done this

Though Sugaring and waxing both are safe methods but avoid if you have the following conditions or better to consult your doctor:

  • If you have skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, or severe acne it is good to consult with your dermatologist.
  • If you are on certain medications like steroids or having any medical sessions like chemotherapy. It makes skin more sensitive. Or if you have compromised skin health conditions.
  • Waxing or sugaring both can cause infection, if you have open cuts or wounds.
  • Avoid this method If you are allergic to the ingredients found in it.

What’s the difference between waxing and sugaring – Bottom Line:

Sugaring and Waxing are both typically safe methods of hair removal with the same results. Both results last the same duration; the only difference is that Sugaring is not as effective for thick, coarse hair as Waxing is. The chances of ingrown hair are higher in Sugaring because of pulling hair in the same direction as hair growth. So, choose the removal technique that best suits you and your concerns.
